A History of Rivertown Players, Inc
In July of 1982, under the umbrella of Community Activities, Inc., a community group performed “Fiddler on the Roof” at Lawrenceburg High School. Shortly thereafter, the group organized under Rivertown Players, Inc.
The mission of Rivertown Players is to promote, encourage, and develop the enjoyment of, appreciation for, and participation in the theatrical arts in Southeastern Indiana. It is our firmly held belief that theatre is for everyone and that everyone has a place in theatre. We offer a safe space to grow and learn that is non-discriminatory, diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
Since 1984, Rivertown has offered annual scholarships to theatre majors. In 1995 a scholarship was added for music majors as well.
Rivertown does not own a building and has used various venues such as schools, churches, Argosy Casino, the fairgrounds, Aurora Park Pavilion, etc. However, the majority of performances have been in Lawrenceburg High School, Hamline Chapel United Methodist Church, and Hillforest.
